Setting

Danaan is a high fantasy, sword and sorcery setting. During the time of the campaign, it is a time of general mortal dominance. The 'Lords' which once oversaw the world have faded into obscurity (either willingly or otherwise) and now Danaan lays in a general period of calm. But there are some forces still at play, biding their time to seize the world for themselves.

Below is a brief glance at the powers that have shaped Danaan. Who they are, and what their role is.

Hierarchy of power

The Trinity

  1. The Author: Perhaps the greatest mystery of Danaan. No one person can definitively say they know what or who exactly the author is. The mortals of Danaan can only theorize. But it is generally understood and accepted that the Author is the point of creation for Danaan.
  2. The Angelic Pantheon: The Angels owe their existence to the Author, who put them in place to help guide mortals along the virtuous path. Each of the four angels represents a core virtue: Courage, Justice, Wisdom, and Temperance. The angels were crafted alongside the concept of The Cardinal King, and each party was meant to work alongside each other for the good of mortal lives.
  3. The Cardinal King: A largely unknown and mostly forgotten character. CK was meant to belay the voices of mortals throughout the Trinity. He also in turn serves as the voice of the Author's will. The Author created the CK as a way to better communicate with his creation and represent himself. Therefore, the Cardinal King was chosen by having a mastery of the four virtues.

The Lords of Danaan

  1. After the vanishing of the Cardinal King and the Author, Danaan (formerly Nea) became riddled with mortals ascending to seemingly Godlike powers. This power stemming from crown-like artifacts which imbued its wearer with unique abilities.
  2. These new beings surmised that they had lost connection with their creator due to the vanishing of the Cardinal King. So, the War of the Lords was fought, which saw the new Lords and Ladies vying for the Cardinal Throne. Each seeking to become the next Cardinal King or Queen. This war would prove fruitless however, and the battle for the throne was put aside, as each party departed for other reaches of the world to bolster their power... and to preserve themselves.
  3. The fate of the lords has not been kind. Many have died, or abandoned their own people. Few truly remain, and none that still walk the face of Danaan seek the cardinal throne.
